About Estimates
Use estimates to represent manufactured parts that have been defined within JobBOSS2 that can be used to provide approximate production costs and suggested sales values.
Where to Start
Before you start creating estimates, it's important to make sure you have defined all the tables you need and that you understand how the system will behave based on the related company preferences and other settings.
Tables Used on Estimates
The following tables are used on an estimate. (Tables are listed alphabetically for reference purposes.)
Preferences and Other Related Settings
In addition to the listed tables, the following preferences and settings affect the ability to create estimates.
Estimating Details
Each estimate contains information that identifies the part, lists the materials that go into it, and states the steps necessary to manufacture it.
The following links lead to topics that provide reference information for each section of the estimate record.

Once the Estimate is Created
Once an estimate has been created, it is very easy to edit and adjust the information. Simply make your edits and click Save. However, there are a couple of details to note when making changes:
- If you update an estimate, it will not automatically update existing quotes or orders that possess that part.
- If you want your estimate adjustments to update on estimates and / or orders that use this part as a sub part, you can use the Flush BOM and Flush Routing utilities.
Reports, Forms, and Labels
The following reports / forms / labels are available under the Print dropdown menu located in the Estimating Navigator.
- Cost Estimate Recap
- Routing Summary Report
- BOM (Bill of Material) Report
What Comes Next
There are a variety of ways to use estimates. The following three options are the most common next steps:
- Estimates
- Estimates can be added to the material sections of other estimates. This is called a sub assembly.
- Quotes
- The most common next step is the quote. You can add your estimate(s) to a quote for your potential customer. For more information see Quotations.
- Orders
- Estimates can also be added straight onto the order itself on the line items grid. For more information see Create a Customer Order From an Estimate (Manufactured Part).
