Inventory

The Inventory Area allows for the creation of purchased parts used during production and the management of established inventory through the tools available.

Inventory Items

Inventory items represent parts that have been defined within JobBOSS2 for use throughout the system. The advantages of defining these items include the ability to:

  • Track on hand quantities and associated costs for inventory management and valuation purposes
  • Provide anticipated cost information that can be used for estimating
  • Populate other areas of the software with part related information quickly and consistently

When performing a search in the Inventory Items Navigator without applying any filters, the results will display both purchased and manufactured parts since they all could be present in inventory. That said, given the difference between the two, manufactured parts - also referred to as Estimates - are created and maintained under the Quoting area of JobBOSS2 and 'Inventory Items' is used almost exclusively to refer to purchased parts.

For more information see Estimating.

While purchased parts can be pulled onto Quotes or re-sold directly to customers, they are most commonly used as material components on estimates (as Bill of Materials items) and are typically used as the source of information to create purchase orders.

For more information see Inventory Items.

Inventory Transfers

Inventory transfers provide the ability to post material to and from jobs using any of the following options:

  • Stock To Job - Posts material to jobs that was pulled from inventory
  • Job To Stock - Places material into inventory by removing it from a job
  • Job To Job - Takes material that was posted to one job and moves it to one or more other jobs

This utility is useful for making "spot adjustments" based on an unexpected need or unused material.

In addition, the option to 'Edit Bin / Lot' provides the ability to edit location related details for material that has already been posted to jobs but is still inside the shop.

For more information see Inventory Transfers.

Inventory Adjustments

Inventory adjustments provide the ability to edit inventory levels and valuation information when the disposition of material is not known. Through use of this utility, users can edit the following information for inventory items defined within JobBOSS2:

  • Bin Location
  • Lot Number
  • Available quantities
  • Associated vendor
  • Unit Cost

This utility is useful when first entering inventory information into JobBOSS2 and for subsequent inventory counts / valuations.

For more information see Inventory Adjustments.

Fill Job Requirements

The Fill Job Requirements Utility allows users to post multiple parts to multiple jobs at one time based on listed requirements in comparison to on hand quantities. In essence, this utility performs a "mass" Stock To Job Transfer based on demand.

This feature is useful in shops where material is not posted during order processing, allowing for inventory posting at set times of the day instead.

For more information see Fill Job Requirements.
