Create an Operation Code

System Location: Settings > Base Tables > Operations

Operation Codes provide a means of populating default values for work steps found on estimates and jobs to help identify the type of work being performed at a given Work Center.

  1. Click the Settings button.Settings_Button
  2. Open the Base Tables dropdown menu.
  3. Select Operations.
  4. Click New (located at the top of the page.)

Provide Values

Provide information for the fields listed below at a minimum to take advantage of JobBOSS2's reporting and analysis tools in addition to benefiting from its ability to pass information along from one part of the software to another.

An asterisk [*] indicates a required field.

  1. Provide information as appropriate:
    • *Operation Number: Unique, numeric identifier assigned by system or entered by user
    • Unattended: Indicates whether an employee is expected to be physically present during the estimated amount of cycle time or not
      • When selected, labor costs will be estimated / captured for setup time ONLY
    • *Operation Code: Short name assigned by user that indicates the type of work performed during the stated operation
    • Description: Appears on Operation Code Navigator and prints on job travelers for reference
    • Default Setup Time: Time allotted (in terms of Setup Time Unit) for setting up a work center associated with the operation
    • Setup Time Unit: Works in conjunction with Setup Time to define how long it is expected to take to prepare a work center that is associated with the operation. Options include:
      • Hours
      • Minutes
      • Seconds
    • Default Cycle Time: The amount of time (in terms of Cycle Time Unit) the associated process will take to complete one unit of a manufactured part
    • Cycle Time Unit: Works in conjunction with Cycle Time to define how long it is expected to take to perform the work detailed in the Description for one part. Options include:
      • Hours
      • Minutes
      • Seconds
      • Pieces Per Hour (System uses value to calculate how long it will take to make one unit in terms of an hour)
    • Percent Efficiency: Represents how efficiently the work detailed in the Description can be performed on the selected operation in terms of scheduled cycle time
      • When less than 100%, cycle time (at the Job Level) will be scheduled to take longer to complete than the amount of cycle time estimated here
    • Machines Run By Operator: The number of work centers (machines) the employee performing the work is capable of running at one time during the selected operation
      • The system divides the amount of estimated cycle time by the value entered here
    • Machines Job Being Run On: The number of like work centers (machines) expected to be used at the same time to perform the work for the selected operation
      •  When greater than 1
        • Estimated cycle time is decreased
        • Estimated setup time is increased
    • Team Size: The number of employees it is estimated to take to perform the work detailed in the Description of the selected operation
      • The system multiplies the amount of estimated cycle time by the value entered here
  2. Click 'Save' to save and close the record.
    1. Use the Save dropdown menu if you want to create a new record or print a report upon saving.
