Quoting and Estimating in JobBOSS2

The Quoting Area is used to create estimates with production related details and customer quotes that contain specific sales values and quantity breaks. Both estimates and quotes can be used to create customer orders.

Estimating

Estimates represent manufactured parts that have been defined within JobBOSS2 that can be used to provide approximate production costs and suggested sales values. When a manufactured item is defined as an Estimate:

  • On hand quantities and associated dollar values can be tracked within JobBOSS2.
    • Items that are entered directly on Quotes or Orders (and not as a defined Estimate) cannot be included in inventory
  • Production related details are available for use on orders that include:
    • Bill Of Materials
    • Routing Steps
    • Outside Services
    • Miscellaneous Charges

Estimates can be pulled onto Quotes or used directly as the source for Customer Orders. In either case, the values contained in the Estimate will be used to populate many of the values found on Orders that use the Estimate.

For more information see Estimating.

Quotations

Quotations, or Quotes, are used to provide customers with sales prices for specified quantity breaks. Quotes can be created for parts defined within JobBOSS2 as Estimates or for items that do not exist anywhere other than the quote itself.

Quotes have the following characteristics:

  • Customer and part specific
  • Contains sales information regarding quantities and related price breaks
  • Do not contain manufacturing details

When quotes are used as the source for customer orders, production related details are pulled onto the job from the underlying estimate if one exists. In cases where a quote is created without the benefit of an estimate, production details will have to be created at the job level. Unit price information is pulled from the quote regardless of whether an estimate exists or not.

For more information see Quotations.
