Create a Product Code

System Location: Settings > Base Tables > Product Codes

Product codes can be assigned to parts as a way to categorize products or inventory segments.

Product Code is a required field on parts if the QuickBooks interface is in use.

  1. Click the Settings button.Settings_Button
  2. Open the Base Tables dropdown menu.
  3. Select Product Codes.
  4. Click New (located at the top of the page.)

Provide Values

Provide information for the fields listed below at a minimum to take advantage of JobBOSS2's reporting and analysis tools in addition to benefiting from its ability to pass information along from one part of the software to another.

An asterisk [*] indicates a required field.

  1. Provide information as appropriate:
    • *Product Code: Should indicate the nature of the property used to group parts together
      • Common examples include material type (Aluminum, Brass, Steel, etc.) for purchased items and production method (Fabrication, Stamping, etc.) for manufactured items
    • Description: Appears on Product Code Navigator and various reports for reference
    • *AR Account: Trade accounts receivable GL code
    • *Discount Account: Cash discounts allowed GL code
    • *Sales Account: Income GL code for associated parts
    • *Freight Account: Freight GL code
  2. Click 'Save' to save and close the record.
    1. Use the Save dropdown menu if you want to create a new record or print a report upon saving.
